Reinstalled Mojave several more times to restore Safari. Unfortunately this replaced Safari and iMovie with later versions that would not run under Mojave. Restored my apps and data from Time Machine. Reinstalled Mojave 10.14 and its security updates. No other data restored just the new system. I did all updates, including Big Sur 11.4. This let me install MacOS Mojave (10.14). Booted in internet Recovery Mode (Option-command-R). MacOS Big Sur 11.4 caused my iMac 21.5" 4K (2017) to crash repeatedly MacOS Big Sur 11.4 caused my iMac 21.5" 4K (2017) to crash repeatedly (i.e., hang on mouse click indefinitely, totally unresponsive interface). Is the platter drive really failing if Disk Utility doesn't seem concerned?.Is there a way to fix the effected user account so that it's not crashing all the time?.I now also have a trial version of DriveDX which is reporting that my platter drive is failing (attached). Also, I learned about Etrecheck, which is attached (note that running from a different user account does not show major issue of drive failure). In browsing the forum, I read how one person found some relief from using a different USB mouse, which has also worked a little for me. My user account is still not working correctly and is encountering major issues. Deleted effected user, reloaded from Time Machine backup via Migration Assistant.Internet Recovery boot - reinstalled MacOS (not wiped w/ clean install).Diagnosis boot - showed everything working normally.Removed login items and extensions via Terminal (not a great technique, probably messed up more than I fixed, and now I'm seeing folders in my Library that I don't recognize).Tried using OnyX, CleanMyMac, and Malwarebytes - no major changes.Internet Recovery boot - Disk Utility shows everything working just fine. This has been happening for quite awhile, remedied by using plug-in devices.Occasional bluetooth drop outs (Magic Mouse and Keyboard purchased with system).Etrecheck took around 12 minutes to complete (vs 3 mins on other account).Hang / crashes after 3-10 minutes after logging in and trying to use normally.Window resizing/opening/closing causes beachballs (inc opening/closing apps). The computer is basically unusable by my user account and symptoms are: Having major issues with a single user account (of 4 users) on a 2017 iMac 18,3 (i7, 24gb, 2TB Fusion Drive).
